The Vaasa city library has books, music, films, audiobooks, magazines, video games, e-books, and online newspapers and magazines.

Books

The library has books in over 30 languages. The books are mainly in Finnish and Swedish, but there are also a lot of books in English. The subject section Literature and languages has books in all Nordic languages, all the major European languages, and several non-European languages.

Short loans: Short loan copies of selected new books, mainly fiction. Loan period: 2 weeks, no renewals or reservations.

Audiobooks: CDs and mp3-CDs in Finnish, Swedish and English; a few audiobooks in other languages. Loan period: 4 weeks. – Location in the main library: Literature and languages, and Children and young adults.

Large print books: In Finnish, Swedish and English. – Location in the main library: Literature and languages.

Easy to read books: Fiction in Finnish, Swedish and English. Non-fiction in Finnish and Swedish. – Location in the main library: Literature and languages, and Children and young adults.

Closed stacks

The closed stacks is a special storage area in the main library not accessible to users. It holds less frequently used items and items in poor condition. To request an item from the closed stacks, please contact the customer service desk.

Newspapers and magazines

The library subscribes to 97 newspapers and 784 magazines, and to two newspaper portals, ePress and PressReader.

ePress provides online access to full issues of several Finnish local and regional newspapers just as they appear in print. Access ePress on a library computer, or on your mobile device by connecting to the library WiFi.

PressReader provides online access to newspapers and magazines from over 100 countries and in several languages: Dagens Nyheter, Daily Mail, Le Monde, New York Post, Svenska Dagbladet. Access PressReader on a library computer, on your mobile device by connecting to the library WiFi, or from home by logging in on the library website with your library card number.

The newspapers and magazines are available in their own subject sections. General newspapers and magazines are available in the section Newspapers and magazines.

The most recent issues are on display and do not circulate. Back issues for the current year are stored on the shelf behind the display shelf, or in a magazine storage box.
